Hamburger Steak Recipe
With this hamburger steak recipe you'll get the good beef flavor of steak along with a texture that's very steak like. Of course hamburger steak is not really steak. It's hamburger.
The key to the texture is very finely ground beef. The ground chuck is where the good beef steak flavor comes from.
Home Style Hamburger Steak Recipe
1 1/2 lbs. Finely ground beef chuck
1 can french onion soup, divided
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup fine bread crumbs
1/4 tsp. Pepper
1/2 tsp. dried marjoram leaves, crushed
1 Tbsp. Flour
1 can (3-4 oz.) sliced mushrooms or 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/8 cup water
In a large bowl, combine 1/3 can soup, ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper and marjoram leaves and mix well. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steaks approximately 8 minutes, turning once. Internal temperature should reach 160ºF.
Remove the steaks from the skillet and keep them warm. Remove the fat from the skillet.
Add the remaining soup to the skillet along with the flour whisking until smooth. Add the mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce and water.
Bring the mixture to boiling, stirring to loosen browned bits. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer approximately 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve the steaks with the soup mixture.
This hamburger steak recipe makes a nice beef entrée for four people.
