Three Ways To Do A Ground Beef Goulash Recipe

Each Ground Beef Goulash Recipe listed here is cooked in a different manner. Goulash originally was a Hungarian Stew of beef and paprika.

None of these three goulash recipes are stews!

The word goulash has been transformed in the U.S. (and possibly world wide) to mean a hodgepodge of ingredients and not necessarily a beef stew.

Skillet Ground Beef Goulash Recipe

1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, mashed
1 tsp. Salt
1 (4 oz.) pkg. Uncooked wide noodles
2 1/2 cup tomato juice
1/2 tsp. Black Pepper
1 1/2 tsp. celery salt
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup water
1 can beef broth
1/4 cup green peppers
1 cup sour cream

Brown the ground beef, onion, green pepper and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the mixture with the 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.

Combine the water, beef broth, tomato juice and the rest of the seasonings and add to the skillet along with the wide noodles. Cover and simmer 10 minutes or until the noodles begin to get tender, stirring occasionally.

Add the mushrooms and then slowly stir in the sour cream to prevent curdling. Slowly bring back up to heat but do not boil. Makes 6 servings.

Casserole Ground Beef Goulash Recipe

1 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 c. chopped green pepper
4 c. canned tomatoes or stewed tomatoes
1 (10 1/2 oz.) can tomato soup
Salt and pepper to taste
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
3 to 4 drops Tabasco sauce
1 (7 oz.) pkg. elbow macaroni
American cheese slices
1/2 tsp. Sugar
1/4 tsp. Basil
1/4 tsp. Thyme
1/4 tsp. Oregano

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Brown the ground beef and the onion in a small amount of fat. Add the green pepper, tomatoes, soup seasonings and sauces and simmer gently.

Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package directions and drain well.

Combine the macaroni with the meat sauce and pour into a large greased casserole. Top the casserole with the cheese slices and bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the top is lightly browned.

This casserole freezes well before baking. Just leave off the cheese.

Yield: 8 servings.

Crock-pot Ground Beef Goulash Recipe

1 1/2 lb. ground meat
1/2 c. chopped onions
1/2 c. chopped green pepper
1/4 c. chopped celery
8 oz. Philadelphia cream cheese
1 can cream of mushroom soup
or cream of chicken soup
1 can whole kernel corn
1 jar pimento
8 oz. pkg. cooked egg noodles
Salt and pepper to taste

Cook the egg noodles according to the package directions.

Sauté the ground beef, onions, green pepper and celery. Drain. Melt the cream cheese. Add the soup, corn, pimento, ground beef mixture and the cooked noodles.

Mix well and salt and pepper to taste. Put in the crock-pot and cook on high for 1 hour.

Take your pick of either Ground Beef Goulash Recipe and enjoy a great dinner entrée that won't break the bank.
