Ground Beef Casserole Recipes
Ground Beef Casserole Recipes are extremely versatile. This casserole recipe is ground beef and noodles with an Italian flair.
Fresh rosemary and Italian spices are baked with Parmesan cheese and spaghetti sauce. The recipe yields a richly flavored Italian dinner that would go great with a simple salad and hot, crusty French bread.
You can use a jar of spaghetti sauce for this casserole recipe, but if you have some of your own home made marinara sauce on hand, by all means, use it. I like to use a lot of garlic with this, but you may find a little less to your liking.
It's not a recipe with hard and fast rules, so feel free to come up with your own Italian delight!
Italian Ground Beef Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1 jar (14 ounces) spaghetti or marinara sauce
1 package (8 ounces) wide egg noodles, cooked
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 packet (.75 ounce) dry brown gravy mix
1 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning mix
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, or 1/2 teaspoon dried
Kosher salt and ground black pepper to taste
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350F.
Heat a large skillet and brown the ground beef. Add the minced garlic and diced onion, and sauté until they are soft. Drain the fat from the pan and season the beef with the salt and black pepper.
Mix the dry brown gravy mix with a cup of water and whisk it thoroughly until it is smooth. Add it to the beef in the skillet and simmer about 3 minutes over a medium low heat - the sauce should begin to thicken.
Add the spaghetti sauce, the Italian seasoning and the rosemary. Bring the mixture to a low boil and then lower the temperature, cover the pan, and let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes.
Carefully mix in the cooked egg noodles with half of the Parmesan cheese. Pour the mixture into a large baking dish and sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serves 6 to 8
On Your Own - Add a little extra crunch and color with diced green bell peppers. Sauté them with the onion and garlic - 1 large bell pepper should be perfect.
Food for Thought - Think about using cooked spaghetti for this casserole, especially if you have some already leftover. And to make it really Italian, use cooked fettuccine. It wouldn't hurt to throw in a small jar of button mushrooms either!
This recipe certainly belongs in your file for Ground Beef Casserole Recipes.
