Grilled Flank Steak Recipe - Asian Flank Steak Recipe
This Grilled Flank Steak Recipe is the epitome of how to cook flank steak. When it's barbecue time I encourage you to think of grilling flank steak instead of the usual burgers or hotdogs.
This recipe is a good start and could become your favorite recipe for flank steak.
I call it an Asian Flank Steak Recipe because it uses flavorful Asian ingredients like soy sauce and ginger along with orange juice and Orange marmalade, in the flank steak marinade recipe.
Marinading the flank steak a few hours, or even better, overnight, flavors and tenderizes the steak.
The acid in the orange juice breaks down the tough flank steak fiber, and the rest of the ingredients give the steak a slightly sweet and sour Asian twist.
2 pounds flank steak
Kosher salt and ground black pepper
Orange Flank Steak Marinade Recipe
Ingredients
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1/2 cup orange marmalade
1/4 cup Italian-style vinaigrette dressing
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder
Directions
Season the flank steak with the kosher salt and black pepper.
Whisk together the orange juice, orange peel, marmalade, vinaigrette, soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and garlic.
Put the steak into a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag and refrigerate the meat for at least 8 hours or overnight. Turn the meat occasionally so that it marinates evenly.
Light a charcoal barbeque or heat a gas grill for medium heat. Lightly oil the grate.
Drain the steak from the marinade and grill the meat for 10 to 12 minutes per side, or until it has reached the level of doneness you prefer. Use an instant read meat thermometer to determine if your steak is medium rare at 145F, medium at 160F or well done at 170F.
Let the meat rest for about 5 minutes before carving it, slicing against the grain.
Layer the slices on a warmed platter and serve hot.
Good To Know - If it isn't barbeque weather yet where you live, the flank steak can easily be broiled.
Set the broiler to medium heat and move the broiler pan about 4 inches from the heat. Cover the broiler pan with aluminum
foil, and broil the meat about 10 to 12 minutes per side until it reaches your preferred doneness. Baste frequently with the
marinade on both sides while it cooks.
Food For Thought - The longer the flank steak marinates, the more tender it will be. If this marinade is too sweet
for your tastes, omit the marmalade and add 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice. This will give the marinade a little tang and will
help tenderize the meat.
This grilled flank steak recipe yields delicious, succulent flank steak that is wonderful carved in long thin slices and
piled high on French rolls.
I like mine with red onion and tomatoes. But you can be creative with your accompaniments, the savory flank steak is the real star of the show!
