Beef Brisket Crock Pot Recipe

Beef Brisket Crock Pot

This is absolutely the best beef brisket crock pot recipe!

Nothing says it's the end of the day like a roast beef supper thats been gently simmering for hours.

This recipe for beef brisket in the crock pot will take you less than 5 minutes of preparation time before you cover the pot and walk out the door.

The delicious aroma that greets you when you open the door is a satisfying reward for a long and busy day.

Look for a flat piece of beef brisket, called first cut, so that the meat cooks evenly. Don't trim away all the fat, as this will add to the tenderness of the beef. If your piece of brisket is too large to fit in the bottom of your crock pot, cut it in half.

Beef Brisket Crock Pot Style

Ingredients

3 pounds beef brisket
2 bottles (12 ounces) chili sauce, such as Del Monte's
1 envelope (1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
2 teaspoons granulated garlic or garlic powder
Kosher salt and ground black pepper

Directions

Season the beef brisket with the kosher salt and black pepper. Put it in the bottom of the crock pot.

Whisk together the chili sauce and onion soup mix with the granulated garlic. Pour the mixture over the brisket, cover the pot, and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

Slice the cooked brisket against the grain, and lay the slices on a warmed platter. Pour some of the sauce over the meat, and serve the rest on the side.

Food For Thought - This is a very easy recipe to "dress up" with your own additions. Add 2 large yellow onions, chopped to the bottom of the pot before putting in the meat, and cut 1 pound of fresh mushrooms in quarters and spread over the top of the meat.

Good To Know - Chili sauce is NOT hot sauce or chili pepper sauce. It is a mild, little bit sweet tomato based sauce that can be found in the aisle with ketchup. Del Monte is my favorite, but Heinz also makes a good one.

On Your Own - This makes a full meal when served over mashed potatoes or hot buttered noodles. If you want to add carrots, peel and cut 4 large carrots and add them 3 hours before the end of the cooking time.

If you would like a thicker sauce, take out the brisket, and make a paste of 2 tablespoons cornstarch with 1/4 cup water. Whisk this in to the crock pot 1 hour before the end of the cooking time, and return the brisket to the pot.
