Abilene Texas Chili
Is Abilene Texas Chili really Texas chili?
Abilene Texas chili is one of the few Texas chili recipes that I've ever seen that called
for tomatoes and beans. No respectful Texas chili uses either. I guess they're different in Abilene.
"This recipe calls for lean ground
beef. I prefer ground chuck for chili!"
Abilene Texas Chili Recipe
Abilene Chili Ingredients
3 lb Lean ground beef
3 tbsp Brown sugar
1 tsp Thyme
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Cumin seed
1 tsp Garlic powder
2 Bay leaves
1 tsp Cilantro
1/4 tsp Oregano
1 tsp Cayenne pepper
2 tbsp Paprika
46 oz V-8 juice
1 cup Onions; chopped
16 oz Peeled tomatoes
4 cups Pinto or kidney beans
Abilene Chili Instructions
Brown the lean ground beef and drain the fat. Add all the other ingredients and cover. Simmer
over medium heat until the beans are thoroughly cooked. That will take approximately 4 hours or so.
This is certainly an easy chili recipe since everything is just dumped into one pot and simmered.
